Events Calendar

Modern Tribe have graciously donated additions to their Events Calendar to help us organise our meetings and workshops. With a few modifications, it ties the site together.

You can visit their site at

Our Facebook page lists our upcoming events as well as other events that members of the club find relevant. Also… there’s the occasional inspirational cat post.

Our Big Brother Writers Clubs

Workshop Presenters are often sourced from larger Writers clubs. Often these clubs will subsidise the presenter’s fee and cost of accommodation.  Two of these  clubs are:

Our Neighbour

The nearest writers club to the Writers of the Far South Coast, both geographically and in friendship is the Eurobodalla Writers Club. We have had Eurobodalla members visit for workshops, present workshops and attend our writers retreats. We value their friendship and stock their member’s books on our own market stall.

Each year, they help to organise the Batemans Bay Writers Festival.

They are a branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) and meet at the Dr McKay Centre, Page Street, Moruya on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month except January. Meetings start at 10.30am and go to 2.30pm. Members bring their own lunches but coffee, tea and biscuits are provided.

Members write something for each meeting. Either fiction, biography or poetry up to 1000 words. We read our musings to each other and if requested, are provided with critiques.

We also have a night group which meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the Moruya Golf Club’s boardroom, from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

Our local newspapers, print stories about our upcoming workshops each month and the Writers of the Far South Coast is incredibly grateful. They are our main source of publicity to bring in new members from the community, that we can help.

The club would not be able to attend markets at all if it were not for the Rotary Club. They support us and our goal to increase the awareness of the Writers of the Far South Coast within the local community. Thankyou.

Local Radio

We try to have our presenters be interviewed by local ABC Radio. The station likes to discuss current events, tie in the presenter’s expertise and then add in: “Oh, by the way, so-and-so will be running a workshop…”

It is hard to know what will be relevant current event so far into the future when we plan our workshops a year in advance.

ABC Radio Studios

If attending the studio is inconvenient, a phone interview is usually acceptable and we ask our presenters to arrange a call with Jen Hunt or Chris Sheedy at ABC Radio, Bega on (02) 6491 6011. Involving the Writers of the Far South Coast as a “middleman” in the scheduling of interviews never works.

If all else fails, someone who wakes up early (ie: not Amanda) calls Community Diary Live on 1300 810 222 either the Thursday or Friday before our regular meeting (not both mornings) at 7:30am for a one minute reminder to the local community.

Mumbulla Foundation

MumbullaWe are ever so grateful to have received grants from the Mumbulla Foundation in 2014 and 2015. They do amazing work, raising funds to support local non-profit clubs, such as ours, and help them continue to operate.

gala-dinner-2016Each year, the Mumbulla Foundation hosts a Gala dinner to raise funds that it donates to organisations in the local community. The Writers of the Far South Coast highly recommends supporting this worthy cause.

South East Arts

We apply for CASP funding.

Also as writing is an art; our workshops are listed on the South East Arts website’s events under workshops.

Google granted the Writers of the Far South Coast free advertising on their search platform (excluding partners) to an amount of $10,000 USD per year ($328 USD / month) that can be used on the condition that the Ad Words account be checked regularly. The grant required an ABN and registration with the ACNC and ConnectingUp.
