An example of when the “official rules” are needed is that only current financial members are allowed by the NSW Department of Fair Trading to sit on the committee and also to propose or second motions/nominations at AGM’s, general meetings or committee meetings.

Annual Membership is currently $40.

The annual membership fee was increased in 2017 for the first time since the club became incorporated in December 2006. The amount was agreed upon by the entire committee at a meeting on the 21st January 2017. This action was taken because our financial situation appears uncertain without the assistance of a Mumbulla Foundation grant.

Initial estimates for the year see the club running a substantial deficit with outlaying costs of subsided venue hire, workshop presenter fees and other amounts required for the club’s ongoing operation. Without a fee increase, the committee feared for the continued existence of the Writers of the Far South Coast.

The committee continues to agree with the ongoing history of no “joining fees” for new members (part 2, section 8, clause 1), however the annual membership fee is required (part 2, section 8, clause 2).

New members joining the club late in the year will remain financial members for the following year.

It is only polite, after all.

  • Part 2 – Membership
    • Section 8 – Fees and subscriptions
      • (1) A member of the association must, on admission to membership, pay to the association a [joining] fee of $1 or, if some other amount is determined by the committee, that other amount.
      • (2) In addition to any amount payable by the member under clause (1), a member of the association must pay to the association an annual membership fee of $2 or, if some other amount is determined by the committee, that other amount, on becoming a member and before 1 February in each succeeding calendar year.

“Officially” membership fees are due on the 1st February each year, however, our “Rules” allow until the 2nd April each year to remain a financial member of the Writers of the Far South Coast.

There are two opportunities to pay with cash in person, before this date, at our monthly meetings. Online payments via direct deposit and payments made by cheque and posted are also accepted. No one will be drawn and quartered for forgetting to pay their membership, we are a friendly club, but sometimes official rules are needed.
